The MAFP and the General Practitioners’ Society Celebrate World Family Doctor Day 2026 Together

May 19, 2026, Yangon

To commemorate World Family Doctor Day 2026, the MAFP, in collaboration with the General Practitioners’ Society, organized a Family Medicine Symposium at the Myanmar Medical Association on Theinbyu Road.
The symposium opened with a welcoming address by Prof. Aye Aung, President of the Myanmar Medical Association. It was followed by a keynote speech delivered by Dr. Win Lwin Thein, Chairman of the MAFP, who highlighted this year’s World Family Doctor Day theme, “Compassionate Care in a Digital World,” announced by WONCA.
A panel discussion followed, focusing on the symposium theme and exploring what compassionate care truly means in clinical practice and how it can be effectively implemented. The panelists included Dr. Mya Win Hnit and Dr. Zin Min Maung, with the session chaired by Dr. Win Lwin Thein.
The academic sessions continued with presentations by three MAFP fellowship trainees. Dr. Ei Ei Lin presented on appropriate antibiotic regimens and antimicrobial stewardship for common infections encountered in family practice. Dr. Win Win Kyi shared a complex chronic women health case that was successfully managed through the effective application of family medicine principles including coordinated care.
The final presentation was delivered by Dr. Sithu Ye Lwin, who highlighted the latest updates in family medicine, including several important practice-changers relevant to primary care physicians.
The symposium concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, followed by a group documentary photo session. Nearly ninety GPs and family physicians attended this symposium.
